Whats in the News?

Education Law, but especially Special Education Law is a rapidly changing area of law that relies significantly on statutes and case law. Here are several resources that can be used to help you stay on top of changes and big news in the world of Special Education Law.

 

- Wrights Law is a leader in Special Education news and law. This website offers a ton of information! This is a great place to start looking for guidance, look at legal cases, find information about best practices, and more.

 

- The Education Law Center is a resource for so many when looking for guidance in Special Education Law and is a huge resource for parents looking to navigate the confusing system. This website offers updates on news and legal cases, as well as many of the cases the Education Law Center takes on every year.

 

-The Journal of Special Education is a wonderful place to get access to scholarly articles surrounding the ever-changing landscape of education and law. However, this resource is a subscription database and will require purchasing. However, many universities, including Villanova, do subscribe.

 

- Education Week is a publication that is constantly updating their website to have the most up to date information available concerning education and the law. This website offers articles, commentaries, and special features. However, some of these articles are for subscribers only. Additionally, it is a very large website with a substantial amount of resources, so it is recommended that search terms such as "special education law" "special education cases" "special education legislation" are used.

 

- US News Week has a subsection dedicated to education law for k-12. They update this website with articles, legal information, and more. This website, while full of wonderful information, parts are only available for subscribers.

- Education Commission of the States is a great resource for everything education-based, including policy, legislation, and news. This resource is consistently updating their news page and provides reports from their own research at times. This resource is updated several times a month and looks at a variety of issues in the world of education today.

- The New York Times offers an education section of their publication.  This is updated very frequently. This is a subscription newspaper and some of the articles may require a subscription to read. This is not special education-specific but offers a range of articles of everything education-related. 

- The Philadelphia Inquirer is a widely published news source in the Philadelphia region and is often available outside immediate Philadelphia vicinity. The Inquirer is also a subscription-based news source, however, a substantial number of articles are available to read. The Inquirer, like the New York Times, offers a section on Education News, that is not specific to special education, but education in general. 

- Politico is a political news outlet that focuses on the most current news on law and policy.  This news source is a great resource for individuals looks to stay up to date on education news. Politico has a "Morning Education" publication which publishes every morning by 10 am, the latest news in education policy and law. This is a very useful resource.
